Welcome to Growing Out Of Darkness™

Growing Out Of Darkness™ (formally known as The Lotus Project) is a 501(c)(3) public charity.

Ending suicide and the stigma around it while fostering authentic healing.

We believe that regardless of whether it is a spontaneous suicide or a long-term depression induced suicide, all suicides involve three factors.

  1. Extreme Distress
  2. Isolation
  3. Loss of Hope

It is our belief that in order to end suicide, we must focus our efforts on addressing the manner in which we live in order to avoid a moment of crisis. One of our primary objectives is to offer information on intentional living, authentic healing, and meaningful connections. (click here to learn more)

The stigma associated with suicide contributes to feelings of uncertainty, shame, and self-loathing which can prevent someone from seeking help. The stigma also prologues and intensifies the grieving process for those who’ve lost a loved one to suicide. It is critical for the overall health and well-being of everyone involved that we end the stigma and focus on the illness. (click here to learn more)

Serving others through various avenues in order to reduce the rate of suicide as well as support those who’ve been impacted by depression and/or suicide.

These values are meant to serve as an inspiration and a reminder as to how we can most effectively live healthy and meaningful lives.

Be the Village

Surround yourself with people who will push you beyond your comfort zone in a healthy way, encourage you during times of self-doubt, and love you even when you feel unlovable. And be willing to do the same for others.

Be Patient

Don’t rush the healing process but be mindful that you are on a journey. Some days the road will feel bumpy, you may even feel you took a wrong turn … not to worry. I’ve found the best destinations often require a bit of adventure and few missteps in order to fully appreciate the paradise waiting around the corner.

Be Intentional

Think through your actions and words. Make the tough choices and choose the path that may seem more difficult because when we struggle we’re telling the world that rather than giving up, we’re choosing to grow.

Be Vulnerable

Allow yourself to open up to those around you. Find peace in speaking and/or writing about your journey. You never know who you might help by sharing your experience with others.

Be Kind

To yourself and to others. Reach out to those in need, forgive those who need to be forgiven, and show love in every action you take and every word you speak.

Be the Light

Take time every day to connect with your inner strength and peace through inspirational readings, meditation, or prayer. Discover the abundant love that comes from that connection and allow it to guide your words and actions throughout the day.

“Similar to the lotus, we all possess the ability to grow through the darkness transforming our surroundings into a place of peace.”
